12 A/B test ideas for Shopify stores
Concrete test ideas for product pages, collections and cart, sorted by effort, each with the goal that belongs to it.
What this article covers
The best test ideas come from support tickets and drop-off points, not from blog articles. Still, a list helps you get started. This one is sorted by effort: what you can test today comes first.
Quick to build (visual editor)
- Product title versus benefit promise above the fold. Goal: add-to-cart rate.
- Button text: “Add to cart” versus “Get yours”. Goal: revenue per visitor.
- Delivery date instead of delivery time (“With you Thursday” instead of “2 bis 4 days”). Goal: purchase.
- Reviews directly under the price instead of further down. Goal: add-to-cart rate.
- Shipping cost note on the product page instead of only in the cart. Goal: completed purchase.
Medium effort (CSS or a small script)
- Order of product images: in use first instead of the cut-out. Goal: revenue per visitor.
- Variants as buttons instead of a dropdown. Goal: add-to-cart rate.
- Sticky buy bar on mobile. Goal: purchase, guardrail: bounce rate.
- Progress to free shipping in the cart. Goal: average order value.
Bigger rebuild (redirect test)
- Collection page: bestsellers first versus new arrivals first. Goal: revenue per visitor.
- Long explanatory product page versus a short, image-led version. Goal: purchase.
- Bundle page versus individual products. Goal: order value, guardrail: return rate.
Where to start
Take the page with the most traffic and the clearest intent, usually your most visited product page. That is where you reach the sample size fastest, and a result there often transfers to similar pages.
And test one thing. If you change headline, image and button at once, you will know at the end that something worked, but not what.
